iPad Saturdays

This week I began working with the kids in groups of two on an iPad that was generously donated to HGH. Nothing cooler than seeing the looks on these kids faces as they watch the animation of a book being read to them or the swipes of their fingers create beautiful drawings. My goal is to use the iPad to help build technology skills of course but also to give them other resources for learning English and math. Favorite math apps are Moose Math which helps with counting, shape recognition, addition, and number recognition, and Hungry Fish which helps increase the kids speed at adding single digit numbers. We also do puzzles, play matching games, and color pictures. The kids also play music, style hair, and make food for monsters on some fun Toca Boca apps.

If anyone has any suggestions for free or inexpensive apps that would help with vocabulary, grammar, or math please let me know. I want to keep adding to the stockpile of Saturday app fun. I am horrible at remembering to take pictures but I will do my best to catch some of the kids in action next Saturday.

    Hi Erin

My name is Andrew and I was with the mission team from Ottawa that came to visit you and the kids in October. I just wanted you and the kids to know that even though it was a short visit, it has made a lasting impression on me as well as the other team members. The work that you are doing is truly amazing, and it reminds me of a song by Brandon Heath called Love Does. If you get a chance listen to it, its pretty awesome.
On a totally different subject, I’m not sure what Christmas it like for the kids. Do they normally get a gift or anything at all? The reason I ask is that my 2 boys and my wife asked my what I wanted for Christmas. God gave me the old tap on the shoulder and I really felt that what I would like to do is to send a gift for each kid there. I’m not sure if that would be even possible. Is there an address that we could send a package?
Please let me know if this can be done.
Keep up the great work that you are doing and say hi to the kids for me.
    God Bless.
P.S. I’ll grill the boys for some good apps and get back to you.
