“Fòk ou dòmi ak Jan pou konnen si l’ wonfle.”
Translation: “You must sleep with John to know if he snores.”
This proverb is a reminder that no matter what you’ve been told by others, only first-hand knowledge will confirm it to be true. In thinking on this proverb I am reminded of the biblical call to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps 34:8). There comes a time when in our Christian lives we must stop living off of the spiritual experiences of others, and pursue God for ourselves, letting our own experiences confirm what others have told us.
