Heart of God Haiti is honored to work closely with two schools with a combined student population of about 300 students and 25 staff members. Your sponsorship donations provide a monthly stipend for the teachers, ensuring the schools will remain open for the many students who attend. Your sponsorship also helps to stabilize the families of the teachers and staff so they are able to devote their attention to teaching their students.
Heart of God Haiti continues to work closely with the Godet School by providing monthly stipends for the teachers, supplies for the school and books for the students. Our daily lunch program serves each child a hot meal every school day. Approximately 100 children attend the Godet school each year. Additional improvements to the school include the installation of a solar generator and lights, greatly enhancing the learning environment which previously was very dark.
The school in Godet also conducts an annual summer school program allowing the children to receive ongoing instruction through the summer while providing summer work for the teachers. This also enables us to continue the important feeding program that many of the students (and their families) rely on. Similar to here in the US, it can be difficult for a family to feed their children during breaks when there is no school lunch available.
Coup Mardi Gras
New to Heart of God Haiti in 2017, Coup Mardi Gras School joins the expanding reach into areas where the needs are great. This school serves approximately 200 students and has 15 staff members. The school was unable to pay their teachers regularly so we have agreed to provide a monthly stipend for them, ensuring the school will remain open for the many students who attend.
Working with the schools provides our missionary, Jennifer Carroll, a dental assistant, with the opportunity to provide hundreds of children with basic oral hygiene care as well as important lessons in keeping their teeth healthy. A bible lesson is always included, too!
