September 2018 Review

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you….

We can’t thank you enough for your ongoing support of this ministry! It is your generosity and prayers that make this ministry possible. Our programs grow each year because of your support. We continue to serve the people of Haiti through family support, school assistance, tuition scholarships, microloans, and job creation initiatives. We can’t change an entire country but together we can impact many lives and give hope for a brighter future.

Focus on …

Coup Mardi Gras School

Coup Mardi Gras School Haiti

Coup Mardi Gras is a small community in the mountains, north of Port Au Prince. Jason & Jennifer Carroll were visiting the community last year and discovered a great need for assistance with their school. The children’s families were having trouble paying the tuition so the Pastor running the school was struggling to keep his teachers, unable to pay them their salary every month. About 200 students and 11 teachers depended upon the local school for their education and employment. Seeing this great need, Jason spent time praying how best to help and it was decided that we would provide financial assistance to cover one-half of the teachers’ monthly salaries. We also provided funds to make some much needed repairs to the buildings you see in the above photo – adding concrete floors and repairing some walls.

In addition to the support we provide, the Pastor has started a small business to raise money for the school. He purchased an oven and is baking bread to sell and also to serve to the children so they can have a small snack when they come to school. He also feeds some members of the community who don’t have enough to eat. He is truly “loving his neighbors,” assisting all those he can with the little amount he has.

Because of your support, the school has been able to not only survive, but thrive. Today the school is bursting at the seams. School begins September 10th and they have about 530 children enrolled. Since they cannot fit all the children in the buildings at the same time, they are holding morning and afternoon sessions to ensure all have an opportunity to attend. They are also hoping to hire more teachers.

This summer they have been constructing a third building on the property as well as building additional benches for the children. The cost of the expansion project is $2,200 which we have pledged to provide. All materials for the project are being purchased in Haiti and all labor is local labor. This provides much needed employment to others in the community and adds to the local economy, benefiting so many more than just those at the school. We look forward to continuing this partnership with the Coup Mardi Gras school and seeing all that God has in store for them and their students.

We’re trying to do better…..

We appreciate all those who give to and pray for our ministry so very much but we know we don’t always do a good job of communicating and letting you know about the impact your support is having. Being an all-volunteer-run ministry, we often struggle to fit our ministry work in between the demands of running a small business and raising three busy teenagers.

We hope you all know how truly humbled we are that so many of you have chosen to come alongside us and support us in our passion to serve those in Haiti. Going forward, we are making a concerted effort to communicate at least quarterly with a short newsletter to keep you up to date with all that is going on in Haiti.

Thank you for your understanding and your support,

David & Julie Young

Please note….

We have been advised by our bank that, going forward, all donation checks must be made payable to “Heart of God Int’l. Ministries” with “Haiti” as a memo on the check. If you make your donations by check, please note this change. Thank you!

Will you consider becoming a monthly donor?

Monthly donors provide us with the ability to better budget and plan future programs. For $30 a month, you can support the family of one of the children that previously lived at the Godet children’s center. Money is used to provide supplemental food for the families as well as school tuition & supplies, clothing, medical care and basic necessities for the children.

For $50 a month, you can support the Godet or Coup Mardi Gras schools. Money is used for teachers’ salaries as well as supplies for the schools and food for the Godet school lunch program. Please visit our website at www.heartofgodhaiti.org to see all the available monthly sponsorship opportunities. If you are already a monthly donor and your credit card has recently expired, you can use this same link to update your sponsorship.
