Nadine is one of our oldest girls at 13 years of age. Her mother works at the center and her two younger sisters, Nerlande and Bianca, live here as well. I have said it before and I will say it again, Nadine has a beautiful singing voice. I love when she leads the kids in worship from their beds at night.
She is a fast learner. With donations from some generous folks we were able to purchase a couple bikes for the kids. Only one of the older boys knew how to ride, the other toppled over after a few pushes of the pedal. Nadine could barely keep herself upright but by the end of the month she was cruising around the courtyard like a pro. Her quick learning abilities also present themselves in the classroom. She has been picking up English consistently since the beginning of the year and her pronunciation continues to improve.
One of her favorite parts of English class is when we get to do puzzles or look at books. I have never met a child who laughs so hard at Little Critter books; something about the illustrations absolutely crack her up.
Nadine also has amazing hair styling abilities. She often braids her sisters’ hair in interesting patterns and designs. I could see her working in a beauty salon someday but I think she would thrive in college and eventually the professional world.
