Introducing Samson

To help all my readers get to know the kids individually I am going to try to highlight at least one kid a week. Unfortunately, I have yet to break my laptop curse so I don’t have the good, clear photos from my camera so grainy iPad snapshots will have to do. Just know that their cuteness isn’t being properly captured. So here we go. Oh and if you happen to feel compelled to sponsor any of my wonderful children, go HERE.

Samson is 7 years old. He has an adorable underbite which makes for an even more adorable smile. The best is his stutter…I am a sucker for a kid with a stutter, don’t ask why. He is a fast learner. Supposedly he attended school before he came to the center but during his first English class he could not write his name so I have my doubts as to the school’s quality. Since then he has improved his writing skills tremendously. He writes two s’s to signify his name and can copy words with relative accuracy (still working on the neatness). He has started extra practice sheets during one on one short sessions with me so I think soon he will be able to write his name with ease. He knows all of his shapes and most of his colors too and has picked up vocabulary that he likes to show off outside of class. For example, he will show me things that are dirty and say “dirty”. Ednel is his hot and cold buddy. One minute they are laughing and playing, the next minute they are brawling on the ground. Typical of most boys’ friendships I’m sure. Samson is one of the more affectionate boys at the center. He will put his head in my lap or wrap his arm around my waist from time to time.

I am excited to see how much Samson will develop over the next months. His social skills have already improved and his ability to sit and participate during English class is so much better than it was when he first arrived. I hope that he will continue to thrive here with his new family.
