Preached at Church Service at Center

Anthony Ingram, Living Life On Mission With Jesus

On Sunday I finally had both the opportunity to preach at Pastor Justin’s church connected to our orphanage, and with the new car, the ability to get there on a Sunday morning to do so.

My translator, Junior, and I made it to the center an hour before service began and spent some time playing with our kids. Then as people showed up for church, they all entered the building and immediately bowed in prayer for the service.

About 9:30 the church began to sing, before separating out into various areas of the church for Sunday School classes.

After the Sunday School lessons ended, more people began coming in, with a congregation of around a hundred people filling the building (although Justin told me that it was not a well-attended service.) They sang and welcomed me with much love and appreciation.

The church itself is a simple one room building with no electricity, wooden benches, and a raised platform for the pulpit. They have none of the resources we have in the U.S., or even that are available in Port-au-Prince, but they get along just fine without the need for anything but their voices and the Word of God.

The sermon I preached was that the Kingdom of God has come with Christ and the He commissioned the church to carry the Gospel of this kingdom into the whole earth. I told the church that I am 100% convinced that God is getting ready to do some amazing things in Haiti as He brings salvation and revival to this country, but the only way it will happen is for the church to understand that it will be done through their hands and feet. I challenged them to hold God’s promise that His glory will cover the whole earth, including Haiti, in faith, and to live their lives as an act of obedience to the great commission as they go back into their daily lives in the community.

At the end of the service I was overwhelmed as they prayed for me and my ministry here, even with my hands shaking uncontrollably as they blessed me and the work we are doing here. Then Pastor Justin invited Junior and I to have a special lunch with him that some of the ladies prepared.

It was a wonderful time or worship and fellowship with this church, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to do it again.
